Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete sound I was so disappointed when I first heard the sound from this speaker, it was loud and full of bass like everyone says but to my audiophile ears the sound was muffled. I was close to returning it when I learn that this speaker can be updated through the app... I just did the update and now I love this speaker, there's a deep bass but better treble which was completely lacking before the update. So to those who don't know, you can make it sound way better. The JBL shopping experience has completed the perfect speaker.

Should I recharge the battery until the LED lights turn off or does it shorten the battery life to charge it all the way full after each use?

JBL Xtreme has a built-in circuit that prevents the battery getting over-charged when the battery is fully charge. As soon as the battery is full the unit goes into AC mode and you don't have to worry about getting it over-charged. To prolong the battery's life, we advised that you don't drain the battery completely, take it a habit that as soon as the battery led indicator goes down to one or two, immediately charge the unit until its completely charge.

The XTREME does not require any specific drivers. It utilizes the standard Bluetooth Stereo Audio drivers available in most laptops/computers. There are two different Bluetooth protocols, one for Headset Audio used for talking on the telephone, and the other for high quality stereo audio listening. Being that the XTREME is a speaker; your computer must connect to the XTREME using the Stereo Audio protocol. Your best bet is to go into your control panel and find the Bluetooth setup. This setup usually provides a setup wizard and will take you through the steps to install the drivers needed for Stereo Audio.

How do i update my speaker and is it worth it? I have read some negative reviews regarding the update. Also box says up to 15 hrs of music the most i get is about 3 before it shuts off

There are two ways. The website HID Software update instructions and the JBL Connect App. Running the latest software version is always recommended. Please ensure the speaker battery received a complete charge. The battery play time hours are dependent on volume level, audio file content and Bluetooth range.

could I take this on a river tubing trip?

Yes. XTREME has a splashproof feauture which can be safe while river tubing but just be careful not to submerge it.

I recently updated my JBL Xtreme, but now it does not sound as loud as it was before. And the speaker is also less punchy like it was. Is there anyway to get the previous firmware back? Thank you!

Unfortunately, you can no longer downgrade the current firmware version that's currently assigned on your XTREME.

Hi! I just bought the Xtreme but I'm having problems with the connection via bluetooth. The sound stutters even when I am next to the speaker. If I move 3 meters away, the connection is lost. How far can the connection reach? Is this normal?

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Reception of Bluetooth can be heavily influenced by surrounding environment. We have some suggestions to possibly address the issue you're having with the XTREME 1. Please note that if you have a large number of Apps open in your smartphone or tablet, this may block or overtax its processor. Dropouts may result. Try to close all or most active apps. This should solve the problem. 2. Bluetooth signals from smartphones and tablets are not very strong. Make sure that the signal does not have to pass through doors, walls etc. Always maintain a clear line of sight between transmitter and receiver. 3. Reset the XTREME by following this step: With the Xtreme ON, press and hold the VOL+ and Pause/Play buttons for 5-6 seconds. The Xtreme shuts down, and is now reset. Under normal circumstances, you can expect a range of 10 meters with no problems. If none of these things work, please submit a case request at www.jbl.com/support-contact.html for information regarding your warranty options.
